I can't remember the author or title of this book. I remember a basic synopsis in that a little girl and her family live in an apartment in a big city when they receive a mysterious crate from an old man. It turns out to be a winged pony and the little girl and her new pony have fun adventures together, ending with a trail ride in the mountains. The only specific detail I can recall is the pony's name Rico, because it's the little girl's favorite name.
