Parents have bills in collections in children's names?

My fiancee's parents have several bills in collections that are in their children's names (all of their kids are over 18) they used their own ssn's but used their kids names. I'm interested in buying a house one day and just cleaned up my own credit. can this go on my fiancee's credit? and is this even legal to do so? i don't understand how these companies even let them do so. any suggestions for how to fix this without paying his parents past due bills.

I'm not sure if they asked their kids before doing this.

My inlaws did this to my hubby and his siblings. You can call the credit bureaus and explain that it was his parents and not him. Sometimes they take it right off. It can be a lot of work sometimes. We more or less gave up trying to fix his credit report--just waiting the 7 years or so until it "falls off."
Reply:Ask a lawyer.
Reply:all debts are done on a person ssn number not on a persons name.so it wont effect his credit rating at all
Reply:Yes, his credit rating can be impacted negatively!

Credit reports check name and SSN.

Fix it before you marry, or your credit report could be affected.
