you have nine months to think of a child's name it beats me also....
CHILDREN'S NAMES.why the constant questions about their names.i just don't get it.?
names are interesting and parents to be want to give their child an interesting or unique name or else they wouldn't be asking the question about children's names.
Reply:um because babies need names and sometime you need a little help to pick the one you like best
Reply:I don't understand either. I love my children and gave them names I (and my husband liked). I would never ask if someone approved, I don't care. There are names I cannot stand but what is the point of upsetting someone because we don't agree on a name. If you are not sure don't do it, if you are go for your life, but please don't rely on someone elses' opinion for something so important!!!!
Reply:The name questions aren't bad especially when they have choices listed. The one that drives me crazy is the "Am I pregnant?" question. If these people cant figure out if they are pregnant or not what kind of parent are they going to be?
Reply:with you babe
Reply:Maybe all their friends and family do not like their name choice so they turn to total strangers to hear what they want to hear or get a different opinion. A lot of people on here answer questions the way the asker wants them to for points or political correctness......People like to hear from other people that they picked a great name....even if it is not.
Reply:They are actually one of my favorite questions--but only if they have a few names already picked out, then we get to choose...
Sorry, but I like them.
They're better than the "am I pregnant?" or "do you like my avatar?" questions, that's for sure!
Reply:its aparent your not a parent
Reply:Just ask yourself if you would like to be called some of the crazy names some people are giving their children these days !!
BE HONEST !!!
Reply:People should use their own imagination when naming their children, not copy what others have done or ask other people for their ideas.
Names are individual to the child and should represent the child's heritage and background, not just some name off a TV programme or something your friend thinks sounds "cool".

You don't need to "make up" name to be unique, you can go back in history and pick one that isn't much used anymore, doesn't have to be "John" or "James" - you're going from one extreme to the other!
Reply:Very simply, when people discover they are pregnant, they are totally excited so don't be so hard on them OK it may be boring for others to read, but they are doing no harm and demonstrating at least that they care. I know a poor child who is named Cougar, but so what.
Reply:Just another way of getting us points
Reply:Sometimes a parent will choose a name and get a lot of negative feedback from people they know. They may want some more objective opinions on whether or not the name is a good name.
Reply:i like giving people ideas for names!! when you have a child you have to have the right name! lots of ideas and different names is a good thing then when ya baby is born you look at them and some how you just know what to call them! i hope people keep asking for names it a good idea
Reply:I think the name questions are kind of fun. Way better than "am I pregnant or what happens if he *** inside of me" that are on this board about 20 times a day!
Reply:Well children are always being born and as such need names... Unless we just start calling them all 'It' or 'thingy'
I think names are better. Hell they gotta live with it for the rest of their lives. Wish my parents had taken that much time naming me... Being named after an under water dwelling thing is sorta cr*py.
Reply:Hopefully, these parents won't go to yahoo for everything. However, as a place to get ideas for names, it is a diverse forum with users from all over the world. Some parents would like to have a few other options than the 'generic' names.
While there certainly is nothing wrong with naming your child:
James (there are ~ 4.8 million men in the US with this name),
John (~ 4.7 million), Robert (~4.6 million), or Mary (~4 million), Linda (~1.6 million), there are some parents who would like their child to have a more unique moniker.
My mom made up my name (many years before the internet existed), and I have had at least 15 children named after me. Not because they knew me, but simply because they liked my name and though it was unique.
Even the baby books usually only have the most generic names. So why not use an area like this to ask? It is harmless, and may generate ideas that they would not otherwise have thought of.

BTW - Website below gives thousands of names, and how common they are in the US.
Reply:I really believe names play a huge role in our place in society. Parents should choose wisely
