How did you come up with your children's names?

This is my husband's account so don't mind the male figure...

We're due to have twins boys this winter and just settled on names after a lot of research and suggestions from...everyone! It was so simple the first time... naming 2 babies is harder than I thought.

What are your children's names and how did you come up with them? Does the name fit your child? Were you looking for something popular, unique or just simply didn't care?

How did you come up with your children's names?
I was looking for names that weren't very popular but could be easily pronounced and read. Two of my girlfriends and I were pregnant at the same time. I remember the two of them were thinking about the names Lauren, Jennifer, Stephanie etc and I had NO interest. Too common. I didn't want my kids to be called by their first name and then the first letter of their last name.

My oldest daughter's name is Peyton (Nicole) and she'll be 18 in Dec. I found her name one afternoon looking through a baby book. I hated it at first. I remember I called my husband over and said, "Hun, look at this stupid name!", but for some reason it stuck in my mind and I ended up falling in love with it. I liked that it didn't have a stereotype to it. It could fit a girly girl or a tomboy and reminded me of a very pretty, outgoing person filled with love and personality. Fits her perfectly.

My middle daughter's name is Laila (Taylor) and she's 15. Her name I also found in a baby book and fell in love. It reminded me of a very chatty, fashionable young woman which also fits her perfectly.

My youngest daughter's name is Christine (Morgan) and she's 9. My husband liked Christina and I liked Justine. We settled on Christine lol.

what did you choose for your boys? Best Wishes btw
Reply:My children are all boys, are all named after their father. We looked up and thought how to spell David. and came up with 4 unique ways. We went to other languages as in hebrew, Russian, african and spanish

Though at one time If I had twins I was going to name them Christian and Deanthony
Reply:I have twin girls and I never used my boy names.

They were Bradley William and Celeb Matthew .

Bradley was for my grandfather Ben and my other grandfather was William.Caleb Matthew was just because I liked it.

I don't like matching or rhyming names for twins. You are welcome to use any combination of my boy names.I'd love to hear if you do.

Congratulations.
Reply:i have two boys benjamin and james. benjamin was picked out because my brother had best mate called benjamin and james was picked out because me and my partner picked it out from a magazine we had been given at the hospital. they both suit their names. wasnt looking for popularity of names they just came out
Reply:A girl in my class (many yrs ago)didn't speak english and I didn't speak chinese but I thought her name was beautiful (Julie) like her and swore I would name my first girl after her. I did. Daughter # 2 was 3 days old because I was expecting a boy, and have no idea, the name just popped into my head. (Stacey), and my youngest daughter is named after my favourite cousin Eric, who was my best friend when we were kids. ( Daughter # 3 Erica)Just make sure you like it to because afterall, you have to live with it as well. "congrats on the birth of twins"
Reply:I name my son Juan James--Juan after his father and James after my father. If I had a girl, it was going to be Mary Julia--Mary after my mother and Julia after my husband's mother. It was important to both of us that we honor the people in our lives who are special and make my son's name mean something rather than just making it up.

I was name after my mother's mother, Kathryn, my oldest younger brother was named after my dad's older brother who was killed in France during WWII, Robert, and my baby brother was named after our father, James.

My husband is one of 4 boys. His older brother was named after his father, Jaime, and the rest of the boys, Juan, Javier, Julio, are named as such because they all begin with "J." In fact, it's a family tradition, which is why I think I'm not having more children since I would be the first to break the tradition since I'd want to name by second son, Robert. lol

Reply:With our son we were pretty young and we liked the singer whose first name was Gavin ,we ended up going to the concert the day I found out I was pregnant .So he is Gavin Taylor (Taylor is my ancestors last name so I wanted a piece of family history tied in there)it definately seems to fit him well and he loves the meaning of his name .Our daughter is Joleah May because my moms middle name is Jo and my sisters middle name is Lee so I kinda created Joleah .I love her name and I think it fits her well although I wish there was a meaning for it . We were sentimental I think in picking out the names and we didnt care about what was popular just what our hearts wanted.
Reply:With my first one i was having a boy. I didn't know want to name it yet. My family was giving me names they like even after i choose a name. I emailed a friend of mine ( which was a guy which we lost contact over the years). He told me that I could name him after him which I did. He five year now and his name is Trent..

my second was I was having a boy and this time my family left me alone picking the name without them saying names. I like to watch a show that full house and they had twins boys on there. And they said Alexander on there. I like that name. He three now and his name is Alexander but I call him Alex for short.
Reply:I named my son after the author of a favorite book because it was an unusual name--I saved it for many years and never met anyone by that name. I wanted to make him a fourth as my grandfather, father and brother had all passed away, but instead I gave him 2 middle names and his own first name. If you aren't English royalty it looks a little pretentious, but he just uses 2 middle initials for most practical purposes.

I think the important thing when naming two is to make them roughly equivalent--you don't want to call one "Fire-breathing Stallion" and the other "Jimmy Bob."
Reply:I have four children and for each it was different.

First I had Spencer Cole. I found the name in a book and my husband really liked it. It wasn't hard to choose, because we both loved the name His middle name is Cole after his great uncle, Charles.

Next- Carissa Noelle was easy. I had a grandmother named Cary, who I adored, but I didn't like her name. So we changed it into one of our favorite girl names and then my husband wanted to give her my name as her middle name.

For my second child my husband wanted her to have a very girly name, and so he found the name Sophia and we both loved it. We kept on with the girl's middle name pattern and named her Sophia Grace

Then for Trevor Luke, my girlfriend told me that she had this boyfriend in high school named Trevor and that she really liked the name but had all girls. So my husband and I used the name. My husband's name is Luke.
Reply:unique i dont like ahveing everyone named the same thing. my daughter's name is Jayleigh Ahna ive always liked the name hayley anne but my cousin took the name just before i gave birth so and when we found out we were expecting i had just lost my grandfather so we took his name Jay and added Leigh then a friend of ours has a daughter named airianna so i thought jayleigh anna would be nice however when i showed people they kept calling her anna ( ann +a) which is not what i wanted so we spelled it ahna so now its phonetic .
Reply:We wanted something uncommon that wouldn't get my Son bullied as he grew up so we decided not to make his name 2 fruity :)

I wanted to call him Jayden but my Girlfriend wanted Kalum, somehow we ended up with Kyle!

As hes grown up he just looks like a Kyle like it was fate, I would say just go with what you feel is good for you.

I hope everything goes well for you both :)

Reply:i was pregnant with twins (boy/girl) and my partner and i couldnt decide on any names whatsoever - even after all the research we had done.

At 2am the morning (later that day i had my bubs) i said to him please let me call our little girl Ayva (it was a name that i had always loved - be he really hated!!) and because i was so unwell at the time he felt sorry for me and said, ok He then picked our sons name - Zachary - luckily it was the one boy name we could agree on!!

When i saw my babies - the names definately suited them!!!
Reply:Well i havent had children yet, but I am going to adopt two baby boys and name then Jake and Elwood, both middle names are going to be Blues; After the Blues Brothers
