Reply:two types of resources that I have used in naming characters, fantasy setting or not, are baby name books found in the parenting section of a bookstore and Lives of the Saints or a similar book that lists saints. There are various baby name books from different editors and publishers, but you will probably find one that lists the meanings of names and includes names from various cultures. Saint books are useful because they contain a lot of names that were common in their historical period but seem rather fantastical now. If you are writing the sort of fantasy that takes place in a fictional land, I would avoid names from well-known myths or fiction. If the story is set in a world like ours, but with fantasy elements, you might also want to look at books on mythology for inspiration in choosing names. You may also find lists of baby names or saints online; below are just a couple.
