I have a son from my first marriage of whom I have sole legal custody of, and a son and am pregnant by my second... he has since left us and I am wanting to take my kids' names back to my maiden name. I am not very well off and cannot afford an attorney. Can I legally do this without their dad's approval?
I live in Iowa...I want to change my children's names to my maiden name. Can I without dad's permission?
Try the source listed below. In Connecticut you can change your name anytime.....for $50.00 (but it has to be published in local papers that you are petitioning)
Good luck!
Reply:I believe you would have to get the dad to relinquish his parental rights to be able to do it without him being able to block you. That being said, you do not have to specifically inform him that you are trying to change the kid's name, and he can't really do anything if he doesn't know you are going to.
Reply:The divorace decree says you can or can't?
