Should parents be allowed to choose their children's names, regardless of the impact it may have on the child?
I think parents have a responsibility to consider their children, and bear in mind they have to live with that name for the rest of their lives.. Therefore not name them something ridiculous
Reply:Its their offspring. They have every damn right to name their child what they want. Ok to some extent they shouldn't name their child something embarrassing but shouldn't is not the same as must not. How can a court tell parents not to name their own flesh and blood what they want? Its like the court allowing you to buy a sofa but not letting you put it in the corner because it doesnt look nice when visitors come round so they must decide it goes in the middle. Ridiculous. The mother said she liked the name. She didnt do it on purpose. She wasnt influenced by the book. When you say Venerdi you dont think of Friday even thought it means 'Friday'. You just think of Venerdi so it shouldnt be embarassing but I guess in their own language it will be a problem for the boy. But come on.... one girl who was born was named Ikea and thats a furniture store. Gwenyth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their baby Apple, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis named their child Rumor, Bob Geldof has daughters named Trixie/Pixie (same difference), Peaches. See these are celebrities and their children will be exposed to the public so they will be laughed at. But this boy... his parents arent celebrities so he wont be exposed with that name. Infact, even if his parents were celebrities people would get over the fact that his name means Friday just the fact that his parents are celebrities.
Reply:absolutely they should choose their child's name. the parents are responsible for the child. They choose to have you. The birth certificate is filled out when the baby is still a baby. How would a baby pick their own name? After all they can not speak,form a sentence , or hold their own head up. Let the parents pick their child's name is what I think.
Reply:Sure; parents should be allowed to name their child any name they choose. If it is not acceptable to the child, he can have it legally changed when he is of age and can choose a nickname that others can call him if he doesn't like his given name. People do it all the time.
Reply:Parents have every right to name THEIR children whatever they want, because the child may always change it when they get old enough too. I mean come on. Friday is a bit whacked but if this is what they want they should be allowed. Next the courts will be telling us what sex child we can have and which one we can't.
Reply:You can legally change your name when you turn 18 years old. But if the parents do not name you who will? You need a name when you are born. How would it sound if you were numbered like: 1, 34, 59 or whatever number or A12, B50?

I think people should give their kids easy to spell names.
