Do you think it's just a trend that parents that are misspelling their children's names?

Like changing Emily to Emulea or Emmaleigh. Or Jessica to Jezzikah for example. I understand everyone wants to be different, but I think it's just a phase people are going through right now. I know some names are the same if you give or take a letter like Sara / Sarah. But why misspell the name out of context? Just wondering...

I think when people change spellings in simple ways, like say, putting a y where an i usually would be, is fine. It makes the name stand out some. I think people take that too far a lot of times though, and change the spelling so radically that you can no longer tell what the name is actually supposed to be. It kind of makes you look dumb when you do that.

Reply:It is not misspelling. It is spelling differently. My daughters name is Aleshia. Pronounced like alicia. My hubby and I like the pronunciation but not the original spelling. Everyone has different tastes therefore there are gonna be people that like different spellings of names. Not a matter of misspelling, just a matter of having different likes and dislikes.
Reply:to that mekaider guy, parents KNOW how to spell the names. They want a change. i mean, i know like 5 alex's, and if someone says 'alex' then i dont know which one they are talking about. i personally like odd names. i enjoy writing, and i will alter names or make up whole new ones.
Reply:It could be a passing trend. I prefer to keep to the basic spelling and not have a confusing spelling. I like names that my children will have an easy time spelling in school.
Reply:Well i spell Anastasia Anastasiya because the first one is Greek, and the second is Russian.





I am Russian, and I want my daughter to have a Russian first name, not a greek one.
Reply:because they mistakenly think that it is cute or unique or special---- wrong it is a terrible mess for the poor kids stuck with these ugly fake spellings of so called names it is awful! i have to assume the parents just cannot spell or don't care how stupid their kids names are.how pathetic!

Sometimes when parents get a little crazy with the different ways of spelling a name ... I think it could just be too wild. But when you mix it up a little, i love it! I don't like common names to begin with ... so why not change them up?

Reply:I think these ebonics-esque names are freakin' ridiculous. Thank God we don't spell everything phonetically - it would take twice as long to type simple messages.





These parents need to get back to basics. The spelling differently for the sake of BEING different is going to confuse a lot of kids, their friends, and their teachers.
Reply:Actually It's Emilee and Emmaleigh. Emulea is pronounce E-mu-lee-ah like Mulan. I don't have a problem as long as it pronounce the same as the original spelling. These idiot parents just misspell them and they think it pronounce the same. Wrong!
