I am in England so dont bother me with any US law thanks.

Reply:not sure about this, but i think that if you are named as the father on the birth certificate they have to get your permission to change your children's name(.I would ask your solicitor). I know some one who wanted to adopt the child of his second wife and bring her up as his own but wasn't able to do so because the "natural father" wasn't able to be located to ask his permission. So i think they would have to ask your permission first.
Reply:Have you spoke to your solicitor? I am not sure about this but i think that if your name is on the childrens birth certificates she would have to have your permission to change their names as both parents names on birth certificates entitles parents to shared PR. good luck with this one!

Reply:if you are married she cant even change their names by de-pole without your permission in a signed document,but if you arent married she can without even telling you,but nobody can alter the birth certificate,that will be as is always.
Reply:I'm not sure,but i think she would have to get your permission to change thier last name especially if your name is listed as the father on the certificate.Call a lawyer and ask.
Reply:If you are on their birth certificate's then I believe she needs your permission. It's a long and expensive process but in the end a judge will have to decide, you have to think is it worth all the money and agro? I would concentrate on just being a good father. Spend the money you would've spent in the courts on your kids instead. When they are 16 they can change their name to whatever they want anyway, My uncle changed back to my grandfathers name as soon as he was old enough.





And just to let the Americans know - It isn't just an American sight. I access Yahoo Answers through a link on the British site. So I guess Yahoo answers is global, we are all shoved under one roof no matter how we access it! Lets just all get along x

I am in the process of attempting to change my childs name and my ex has opposed this we have had an initial court hearing in front of a judge and a cafcass officer and have now got the date of the final hearing where it is to be decided.


We have had to prepare a lengthy witness statement why we want to change the childs name and providing the court with details of history.We have also got to a hire a barrister for the final hearing it is a costly and lengthy process.
