How can I find children's stories with character names the same as my nieces and nephews?

There is a man I know of that always gave books to his child relatives with the same character names. He found the books by doing a search online. Is there a website that can find children's stories with specific character names? (looking for Grant, Jessica, or Alison)

How can I find children's stories with character names the same as my nieces and nephews?
Hi! As a children's librarian, I get asked this question from time to time. There actually is a reference book, though a little old now, that deals with this subject. It's called "My Name in Books." It's available on netlibrary.com, which my library subscribes to, and I'll be happy to send the info on from there.

Also, you can search the WorldCat library database at http://www.worldcat.org . Click on "advanced search" and you can enter the children's names as a keyword, one at a time. I suggest adding the words "juvenile fiction" to help limit your search a bit. Unfortunately, you're going to get some junk hits, probably author names will be pulled up, too, but if you're willing to spend some time sifting through the results, you can come up with a lot more possibilities.

Here's the info from the book I talked about earlier:

Alison:

Krensky, Stephen. Ghostly Business, Atheneum, 1980, 144 p., Fiction. Alison is one of the Wynd children who uses her magic powers to prevent ghosts from taking over houses in Boston.

Grant:

Unfortunately, no entries under Grant.

Jessica:

Estern, Anne Graham. Picolinis, Bentam, 1988, 131p., Fiction. Jessica is led into an exciting and dangerous adventures by the miniature circus family that lives in the dollhouse purchased at an auction.

Hahn, Mary Downing. Daphne's Book, Clarion, 1983, 177p., Fiction. Jessica is not happy to be paired with Daphne for the seventh-grade Write-a-Book contest because the other students think Daphne is strange.

Root, Phyllis. Moon Tiger, 1983, 25p., Picture Book. Jessica Ellen is sent to bed because she won't read a story to her younger brother. In her room, she imagines a moon tiger that will take her for a ride. A Reading Rainbow book.

Snyder, Zilpha Keathley. Witches of Worm, Atheneum, 1977, 184p., Fiction. Jessica has cared for Worm ever since she first saw the ugly, helpless, newborn kitten. When worm begins making her do dreadful things against her will, Jessica wonders if Worm is a witch's cat. 1973 Newbery Honor book.

You can find out-of-print books at http://www.abebooks.com and of course http://www.amazon.com . I hope this helps!
Reply:you can custom make a book...by choosing the book you want and just switch the characters...there are places that do this
Reply:"Personalized books" are the answer. Click on the links below, please.

The third link will give you many more choices.
Reply:As far as I know, there isn't any search engine like that. Your best hope would be to type something like this into a general search engine: [child's name] book character. I found lots of different results for book characters with my name like that.
Reply:There are companies out there which specialize in "personalized" books. They have stories in which they can insert names you provide them.

Search "personalized books" and you will find many, many companies to choose from.

They will send you a form to fill out giving the info they will use to make the book.
