What is it about alliteration in children's names?

Honestly, it bugs me. To those of you that don't know, alliteration is using the same letter for the first and last name (Or the first and middle name, or even all three names). I think of comic book characters when I hear alliterated names, like Peter Parker, Green Goblin and Lois Lane.

Why do people continue to alliterate names? And is there any alliterated names out there that actually sounds good? Please, help me out here! I need to know.

What is it about alliteration in children's names?
I agree with you. I hate alliterative names.... Soooo many people think it sounds "Hollywood" when it really just sounds stupid. One of my best friends gave her daughter an alliterative name (two "K" names), and it sounds horrible. I don't get so irritated when the first and middle name or the middle name and last name have the same letter (as is the case of my husband.... CWW). How often do you really use a middle name, anyway?

As for all the people that made negative comments to you about voicing your opinion on the subject... what do they think they were doing by giving their own negative opinion of your question....?
Reply:dunno about the 1st part of your question but the girl names..

i like

Kai,

Eden,(pronounced as in EDDEN not EEDEN..short e)

Yael,(pronounced YALE)

Kaden, or just Kade

Zara

Reply:It's ok that you don't like alliteration in names and it's ok that others do. I really don't have an opinion on this subject.

Anyway, a unique name is Xanthia.
Reply:Why do you need to know? Why is this so important? Its just a pet peeve of yours like people who say "Heighth" instead of height.

Just get over it
Reply:I personally like my name, despite the fact thats it is alliterative. And considering that my parents were unmarried when I was born, they didn't really consider the last name.

Laurel (LOR-all) or Alysia (a-LEE-see-ya)
Reply:I like some alliteration -- my son's first name and last name are alliterated and I think it sounds great. It's not too cutesy of a name... It depends! I hate it when a mom decides to use one letter to begin all her kids' names with -- like Kerry, Karen, Kelsey, etc... I don't know why that bugs me though!

As for unusual names, I still love the name Cosette - the character from Les Mis!
Reply:my fav girl name is june or summer
Reply:Mine is alliterated and I've always loved it! It's also an LL name, although I won't be giving out my full name on YA!
Reply:my first and last name are alliterations...i dont know many kids that actually do...and mine is b/c it sounds good together and even better with my middle name (not the same letter...my initials are MAM) so alliterated names are ok, but only if they sound good.

my fave girl names are

Alyssa Morgan

Cora Dawn

Lucy Faye

Karli Jo
Reply:They think it's cutesie. They're not thinking about the kid who will eventually be 25 and in search of a serious job.
Reply:My name is Shanae Stevens ... I am not a big fan of my first name but I like my surname ...
Reply:People alliterate names because they like the way it sounds.

You don't have to alliterate the name of your baby, just don't worry about other peoples' baby names.

They're going to do it if they want. It's up to them.

I personally don't mind it..

It's alot better than naming the kid Moon Star, Sunny Day, Cherry Coke, Chip Monk, or Mary Christmas.
Reply:my first name and middle name both begin with the same letter. my favorite unusal girls name is Toby.
Reply:You know with everything that goes on these days the world has not stopped revolving due to alliterated names! Can you believe that?

I think you need something else to occupy your time. No I have not done this to my children but if I had don't think I'd ask or desire your opinion. Last time I checked it was their child and they can name them as they please. It gets to me that people use baby names like a creative writing test or the birth certificate lady was illiterate. Still it is their child and their decision.
Reply:Xavier Xander Xang is my homie's name. Triple X baby! I like Trinity Raye.
Reply:I like Alice Aylse or Emery Elisabeth for girl's names, but my last name does not start with thise letters.

There are not very many alliteration names that I like. It just depends on the name. I hate rhymey names. My sister's friend had a name like Terry Dewberry and she hated it.
Reply:My name is an alliteration....... its Danielle Diahanne (Diane), and I think its pretty.

My favorite names for a girl are Jordin, Trinity, Harmony or Alexandra
