What do you think of adoptive parents that change the adoptive children's names?

I know that it happens frequently. How old would be too old to change a child's name?

What do you think of adoptive parents that change the adoptive children's names?
I think it depends, certainly the age of the child should be considered. My sister adopted two little girls. One of the girls was 3 years old and her given name was Guinevere Honey and was changed to Judy, the second little girl was two and was named Monique so they just called her Nickie.

I have to say that I agreed with Judy's name change.
Reply:One thing to note: I knew a family once that changed the names of a sibling group they adopted because the children were afraid their mother would find them and hurt them. In their case... It was an additional measure of confindence in their safety to change their names. Report Abuse

Reply:Nothing past infancy. It is confuses the child, whether that concerns calling out the name or the child's personality. I have a 1 year old little brother, and he already recognize his name quite well. If we were to change that, I know it would confuse him to no end.

If one should change an adopted child's name, it definitely occur when the child is younger than 1 year old. No younger than 6 months is even better. No older than 1 month (as per one other answer) is even better.
Reply:I agree...my parents adopted a 5yr old boy and his name was Marcus Sky Walker...and my parents changed it to

Marcus Walker "Last Name"...
Reply:i think it is best that they change the name as soon as they have the legal right as the parent
Reply:I'd say once the child can recognize his/her name, then it is too late.
Reply:I think that you have the first month of the child's life to change his/her name. But that's just my opinion.
